Depicting a Georgian-era building in London, From the Seventh Floor continues Hodgkinson’s sustained study of architecture and observation. The pale limestone façade and rhythmic fenestration imply habitation while withholding any view of the people within, shifting attention toward the building’s ordered geometry and subtle irregularities. As in his studies of weathered lumber and horse enclosures, architecture registers human presence indirectly—through structures designed to shelter, organize, and contain bodies that remain just beyond sight.
