Fred Reichman
Snail and Rain Across the Path, 1963
Oil on canvas
42 1/2 x 64 3/4 in.
Snail and Rain Across the Path resists narrative closure, instead asking the viewer to linger with ordinary events as they unfold over time. In this way, the work echoes the logic of a Zen koan; less a problem to be solved than an invitation to sustained presence and quiet awareness.
