Tyler Ormsby: Casual Markings

House of Seiko is pleased to present Tyler K. Ormsby’s Casual Markings, the San Francisco-based painter’s debut solo exhibition.

Tyler K. Ormsby lives and works in San Francisco, CA. His artworks take shape through various mediums, emphasizing painting, drawing, and ceramics.

This recently completed body of work illustrates a practice anchored to his everyday rhythms; Ormsby is a painter sequestered from the imposition of style, form, and expectation. The artist lets a personified cast of characters dictate his palate; organic mounds inform his use of color, time spent in the ocean, and the seconds collected with his family at home all weave the tapestry of his influence. He reimagines these encounters through a lens of abstraction, hovering between a symbolic and gestural state. The works are both inventive in the methodology and construction and employ immense honesty.

This exhibition marks a shift in the artist’s practice. For his entire career, Ormsby has operated “post-studio,”; making paintings and sculptures in his car, apartment, and other unorthodox spaces. Ormsby has previously exhibited work at galleries and institutions such as Ratio 3, New Sun Room, and the Watari Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, Japan.
